arsenal vs wolves preview

Arsenal head to the molineux fresh from their 4-1 annihilation of AZ alkmaar…. the gunners had been dogged by a bit of complacency before this game as evident in the 1-1 draw with AZ and the 2-2 at upton park… a game where they were two goals up, before they managed to conceed two goals in six minutes.
as usual fans and pundits alike are tipping the gunners to come away with a win from the molineux.

on the injury front, clichy, bendtner, walcott, denilson, fabianski and djourou are still out. Vela, despite having not featured for the club much this season is also out… however we are boosted by the return of rosicky and also nasri who both featured in the win against alkmaar.

wenger will be expecting van persie to continue in his rich vein of goal scoring form while the midfielders are also expected to complement him in the attack… goals have been flying from everywhere and as such it will be a difficult task to pinpoint any particular player as the main goal threat…..this goes to show the massive quality we have got at the grove.

a little bit of info on the opposition;
Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo is out for several weeks after injuring the same metatarsal he fractured in pre-season.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake will replace Iwelumo, while Nenad Milijas could be recalled after setting up two goals as a half-time substitute against Stoke.

gibbs will have his work cut out if he has to prove to capello that he is worth a look in. his performance against alkmaar was just above average and as such he should be looking to raise his game

i’ll be going for an arsenal win but i doubt we will be able to keep a clean sheet.

Ramsey Rams home a new deal

arsenal’s welsh international star Aaron Ramsey has penned a new deal. the 18 year old welsh star has put pen to paper on a longterm deal.

The Gunners won the race for the 18-year-old’s signature last summer, securing his services from Cardiff City for £5million.

Ramsey made 22 appearances in all competitions during his debut season at Emirates Stadium, netting one goal in the UEFA Champions League.

in the words of arsene wenger: “We’re delighted that Aaron has signed a new long term contract. He made a very good contribution in his first season and he showed that he is a very intelligent player with great quality. He is still only 18 and we’re really looking forward to seeing him develop with us in the forthcoming years.”

this development bodes well for the future of the club as well as that of the player.

the bisch is off

gamble signing amaury bischoff  has given reasons for him parting ways with arsenal. the france born portuguese  u21 international was among a list of eight arsenal players who were released by the club.

in a report on sky football he stated that le Boss could not assure him of first team football next season and as such he decided against signing a new deal.

i wonder how players like him without any formidable reputation in his playing career would want a club as illustrious as ours, to give him assurances of making the first team. such luxuries are the preserve of a few players such as thierry henry , c.ronaldo, lionel messi, kaka, etc

this just goes to show the lack of respect players have for our club. any decent player would have thought of earning a contract by actually working hard in training. this attitude of his probably acts as a yardstick for judging his commitment to our club, and to a larger extent whatever club he finds himself in. afterall wenger said he was a gamble and so we shouldn’t be surprised over how things have turned out

gallas to stay on?

latest reports has it that ex-arsenal captain , william gallas might be staying for another season. with the reported ill feeling towards him by other players at the club it was expected that the erstwhile arsenal captain might be leading the mass exodus predicted by journalist and critics of our dear club,  but in a related development, gallas has personally come out to dispel any fears regarding his future as an arsenal player.

speaking to skysports, he had this to say:

“I am at Arsenal, my contract is still valid for a year, so I am an Arsenal player.

“We have not talked about renewing the contract, but I am relaxed and looking forward to next season with Arsenal.”

for the moment it seems he is likely to remain here for the forthcoming season but as we all know things like this are not certain as he is to have a change of heart based on offers which come in. moreover we still have two months before the window shuts….

Meanwhile, reports suggest Mikael Silvestre, who signed at Arsenal from Manchester United last summer, could be a target of Bordeaux. the player who was described as  a ‘geriatric’  by a certain at the recent shareholders, meeting may have seen the likelihood of him getting regular football next season drastically reduced by the arrival of thomas vermaelen and the rumoured arrival of turkish defender serdar tasci.

arshavin rumours: a figment of a crazy imagination

“I have supported Barcelona all my life. Barcelona are my dream.

“I never thought I would have a genuine chance to play for the club. Let’s see how the situation unfolds. For now I can’t say anything for sure.

“At the moment I’m a player of team Russia and I’m only thinking about doing well in the semi-finals.”

these are the exact comments made by andrey when his future as a player seeking an exit from zenit st petersburg was still hanging in the balance.  the current trend among journos is to dig through their archives and extract comments made previously by players and manipulate these to fit into the scenario they want to create.

his attraction to barcelona has been known over time but since they didnt really need him he was left out of their transfer plans then. but having shown his worth in the colours of the gunners he has now been linked with  barcelona according to reports . what do you make of this

a ride on the fabre go round

and now for another dose of the ever recurring transfer of our enigmatic captain cesc fabregas… this time it’s barca who are on the doors of the emirates with a purported bid of about 35m euros. for a player of cesc’s status and given the present state of the transfer market, he should be worth about 50million euros (since he has a fairly long contract with the club).

however i really dont expect any thing concrete to come out of this rumours because cesc has insisted time and time again that he is staying at arsenal for the foreseeable future so any talk of a transfer this season is out of the question.to the club

a couple of weeks ago he reaffirmed his commitment to our dear club. in his own words:  “So, for anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great Club.
